Mobile Engine Repair

Misfires, rough idle, knocking, or overheating — we diagnose and repair engine problems at your location in Austin, no shop drop-off required.

The service

What we do

Engine problems cover a wide range — from an annoying misfire you've been ignoring to a timing belt on the edge of failure. The stakes are different for each, but what they have in common is that most Austin shops want the car there for a full day before they'll even tell you what it needs.

ACME Autoworks handles engine diagnostics and repair on-site. We bring compression testers, leak-down testers, fuel pressure gauges, oscilloscopes, and OBD-II equipment designed to tell us exactly what the engine is doing and why. We fix spark plugs, coils, valve cover gaskets, timing chains and belts, intake manifold gaskets, and more.

We're honest about scope. If an engine repair requires a lift, a machine shop, or a complete teardown, we'll tell you that and give you a clear picture of your options. We won't sell you a repair that shouldn't be done in a driveway.

Process

How it works at your location

01

Describe what you're experiencing

Is it a misfire? A knock? Overheating? Rough idle? We use your description to build a diagnostic plan before we arrive.

02

Engine diagnostic on-site

We run compression tests, fuel pressure tests, check ignition systems, and scan for fault codes across all engine-related modules.

03

Repair at your location

Most common engine repairs — gaskets, coils, plugs, belts, sensors — can be done on-site with the car in your driveway or parking spot.

Warning signs

Signs you need this service

Check engine light combined with rough idle or hesitation

Engine knocking or ticking sounds at idle or under load

White or blue smoke from the exhaust

Engine overheating — temperature gauge rising above normal

Why mobile

Why mobile beats the shop for this service

Engine diagnostics benefit enormously from the mechanic being at the car — not just reading codes passed along by a service writer. When we're on-site, we can hear the knock, smell the exhaust, and observe how the engine behaves under real conditions. That leads to faster, more accurate diagnosis and saves you money on unnecessary parts replacements.

FAQ

Common questions

Can you diagnose a misfire without coming to a shop?

Yes — diagnosing a misfire (spark plugs, ignition coils, fuel injectors) is well-suited to mobile service. We bring the tools to isolate which cylinder is misfiring and why.

Can you replace a timing belt or chain at my home?

Most timing belt and chain jobs can be done on a level surface with proper support equipment. We'll confirm this when you book based on your specific vehicle.

My engine is overheating — can you help?

Yes, though we'll ask you not to drive it before we arrive to avoid further damage. Overheating can be caused by a failed thermostat, water pump, coolant leak, or head gasket — we'll identify the cause on-site.

Can you replace a head gasket at my location?

Head gasket replacement is a major job that we assess case by case. On many vehicles it's possible on-site; on others it requires a lift or additional support equipment. We'll be upfront about this.

What's the difference between an engine knock and a tick?

A tick (usually valve train or small injector noise) is typically less urgent than a knock (often rod or main bearing). We can differentiate them by sound and test confirmation on-site.
