What we fix

Common MINI problems we handle in Austin

Cooling: thermostat housings and water pumps

When a MINI runs warm, the usual suspects are the thermostat housing and water pump — documented leak points on the 2007–2015 turbo Coopers especially, and plastic housings on most years age fast in Austin heat. A coolant smell, a slow loss with no puddle, or a temp warning in summer traffic is the cue. We pressure test to find the actual leak, replace the failed part, and fill to spec in your driveway.

Misfires: coils and plugs

A MINI that suddenly idles rough or flashes the check-engine light usually has a failed ignition coil — a common item on these engines, especially the turbo cars. We test which cylinder is missing, replace the coil, and do plugs at the same time when the mileage justifies it — you get both numbers before we start.

Oil leaks: the valve cover gasket

Higher-mileage MINIs develop the classic valve cover gasket seep — a burnt-oil smell after driving, a damp edge around the cover, sometimes a whiff of smoke off hot parts. It's an accessible repair we do on-site, and catching it early keeps oil off components that don't appreciate it.

Batteries need registration

MINIs run BMW-family electronics, which means a new battery should be registered to the car — skip it, as parking-lot swaps do, and charging behaves incorrectly for the battery that's actually installed, shortening its life. We test first, then fit and register the correct battery.

Brakes and front-end wear on a car that begs to be driven

MINIs get driven like MINIs — that's the point — and the front end takes it: pads and rotors, sway bar links, control arm bushings, and wear sensors that trip the dash light. We measure, quote flat, and do the work in your driveway, wear sensors included.

Pricing

Upfront flat-rate quotes

Upfront flat-rate quotes before any work begins — you approve the total price, not an hourly meter. Our European labor rate applies to MINI work — the specialty tools, spec fluids, and coding equipment these vehicles require are part of the job. Either way, the quote comes first and the total doesn't move after you approve it. No shop overhead, no waiting room, no shuttle.

Questions

Common questions about mobile MINI repair

How much does mobile MINI repair cost in Austin?

Our European labor rate applies to MINI work, and every job is an upfront flat-rate quote — you approve the total price before any work begins, not an hourly meter.

My MINI runs warm in traffic — how worried should I be?

Take it seriously — these engines don't forgive overheating. It's often a thermostat housing or water pump leak, both known items and both fixable in your driveway. We pressure test and give you a straight answer.

Do MINI batteries really need to be registered?

Yes — MINIs use BMW-family electronics that manage charging based on the battery installed. We register the new battery so it charges correctly and lasts.

Can every MINI repair be done mobile?

The high-frequency work — cooling, coils, valve cover gaskets, brakes, batteries, AC, suspension — is accessible and we do it on-site. For major internal work — head gaskets, timing jobs, exhaust, and internal engine or transmission repair — we'll refer you to a shop equipped for it.

Do you work on older MINIs?

Gladly — including ones other shops have given up on. An older MINI JCW that 'couldn't be fixed' is one of our proudest saves. Patience and proper diagnostics go a long way with these cars.

Can you come today?

Often, yes. Call (512) 910-5935 or book at acmeautoworks.com/book — Monday through Friday, 8am to 6pm, home or office.
