What we fix

Common Jeep problems we handle in Austin

Wrangler front ends: from loose to wobble

Solid front axles are why a Wrangler does what it does — and why the steering gets loose as track bar bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, and the steering damper wear. At its worst that wear becomes the famous 'death wobble': a violent shimmy after a bump at highway speed. It's fixable, and the fix is replacing the specific worn parts, not throwing the whole catalog at it. We inspect JK and JL front ends properly, tell you exactly which components are loose, and replace them in your driveway. Lifted and modified Jeeps welcome — describe the setup when you book.

Pentastar 3.6L: oil filter housing and water pumps

Most modern Jeeps run the 3.6L Pentastar, which means the well-known plastic oil filter housing leak — you smell hot oil after a drive before any light comes on — and water pumps that weep around 100k. Both are jobs we do on-site, and most owners take the improved housing design while we're in there. If your Wrangler or Grand Cherokee smells like oil, this is the first thing we check.

AC that can't keep up with a Texas summer

Jeeps here work outside: sun, trail dust, and idling in August traffic. We see condensers sandblasted by gravel roads, compressors that quit the first 105-degree week, and Grand Cherokee blend door actuators clicking behind the dash with the air stuck on hot. We leak-test before recharging, carry both R-134a and R-1234yf, and replace failed components in your driveway.

Batteries and charging — including the hidden aux battery

Austin heat takes Jeep batteries in three to four summers, and many 2018+ models with auto stop-start carry a second, smaller auxiliary battery that causes baffling electrical complaints when it weakens — start-stop errors, warning lights, features cutting out. We test both batteries and the charging system before replacing anything, and we fit the right battery for the truck.

Brakes and wheel bearings under real use

Gladiators and Grand Cherokees that tow, Wranglers on 35s, Cherokees doing daily-plus-trail duty — all of it wears brakes and hub bearings ahead of the book schedule. A hum that rises with speed, a soft pedal, uneven pad wear: we measure, road-test, and replace pads, rotors, calipers, and hubs on-site, with a flat-rate quote you approve first.

Griff and Max are amazing mechanics. Honest and hard working. Prices are fair and competitive. They let me know if it's a job I can do, as well. That's an honesty you don't find often anymore. I would recommend them any day of the week. Plus they come to YOU.

Questions

Common questions about mobile Jeep repair

How much does mobile Jeep repair cost in Austin?

We quote every job upfront as a flat rate — you approve the total price before any work begins, not an hourly meter. The number comes before the wrenches.

Can you fix death wobble on my Wrangler?

Yes — by finding which front-end components are actually worn. It's usually a track bar, ball joints, or the steering damper masking one of them. We inspect the whole front end, show you what's loose, and replace exactly those parts.

Do you work on lifted or modified Jeeps?

Yes. Lifts, oversized tires, aftermarket steering — describe the setup when you book so we bring the right parts and expectations. Modified front ends wear faster and deserve honest inspection.

Can every Jeep repair be done mobile?

Most of what actually fails — front ends, cooling, AC, brakes, charging, ignition, the oil filter housing — is accessible work we do on-site. For major internal work — head gaskets, timing jobs, exhaust, and internal engine or transmission repair — we'll refer you to a shop equipped for it.

What Jeep models do you service?

Wrangler (JK and JL), Gladiator, Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, Compass, Renegade, Patriot, Liberty, and Wagoneer.

Can you come today?

Often, yes. Call (512) 910-5935 or book at acmeautoworks.com/book — Monday through Friday, 8am to 6pm, home or office.
