What we fix

Common Toyota problems we handle in Austin

Water pump leaks on the 3.5L V6

The 2GR-FE V6 in the Camry, Avalon, Highlander, and Sienna is one of the most reliable engines ever built, with one known habit: the water pump starts weeping between 80k and 120k miles. The tell is pink coolant crust around the pump or a low-coolant light after years of never touching it. It's a front-of-engine job we do in your driveway — pump, thermostat if it's due, fresh coolant, pressure test. Early versions of this engine also had a rubber-section oil line for the VVT-i system that Toyota later updated to metal; if yours still has the old part, we'll spot it during the job.

The 100k service nobody actually did

Toyotas run so well that maintenance gets skipped — until a high-mileage Camry or Sienna starts misfiring. Iridium plugs are due around 120k, and on the 3.5L V6 the rear bank hides under the intake plenum, which is why quick-lube places quietly skip them. We do the full job on-site, plenum off, all six plugs, plus coils if testing shows one's weak. If your Toyota is past 100k and you don't know when the plugs were last done, they probably weren't.

Trucks and 4Runners: front-end wear

Tacomas, 4Runners, and Tundras around Austin lead hard lives — Hill Country roads, towing, and the occasional ranch two-track. Ball joints, tie rod ends, sway bar links, and wheel bearings are the wear items we see most, and on higher-mileage Tacomas and 4Runners a clunk or wander is worth taking seriously. We inspect the whole front end, tell you which parts are actually worn versus just old, and replace them at your house.

AC that finally gave up

Toyota AC systems are tough, which means the ones that fail are usually old — a 12-year-old Corolla or RAV4 that's slowly lost its charge, a blower motor that only works on high, a compressor clutch that's done. We carry both R-134a and R-1234yf, find leaks before recharging, and replace compressors, condensers, and blower motors in the driveway.

Batteries, alternators, starters

Austin heat kills batteries in three to four summers regardless of the badge, and high-mileage Toyotas eventually need alternators and starters like anything else. We load-test the battery and check charging output before replacing anything — no parts-cannon guessing — and we do the work wherever the car is parked.

Questions

Common questions about mobile Toyota repair

How much does mobile Toyota repair cost in Austin?

We quote every job upfront as a flat rate — you approve the total price before any work begins, not an hourly meter. Describe the vehicle and symptom when you book and you'll have the number first.

Is it worth fixing a high-mileage Toyota?

Almost always. A 150k-mile Camry or 4Runner with a weeping water pump or worn ball joints has a lot of life left — these are exactly the repairs that keep a Toyota running to 300k. We'll tell you straight if a repair doesn't make sense.

Can every Toyota repair be done in my driveway?

Most of what wears on a Toyota — brakes, suspension, cooling, charging, AC, plugs and coils — is accessible work we do on-site. For major internal work — head gaskets, timing jobs, exhaust, and internal engine or transmission repair — we'll refer you to a shop equipped for it.

Do you do the 100k/120k service at my house?

Yes — plugs (including the rear bank under the intake on the V6), coils if needed, belts, coolant, and fluids per the maintenance schedule. We do what's actually due, not the whole upsell menu.

What Toyota models do you service?

Tundra, Tacoma, 4Runner, Sequoia, Highlander, RAV4, Camry, Corolla, Sienna, Avalon, Venza, and Land Cruiser. Hybrids too, for standard work — brakes, suspension, 12-volt batteries, AC.

Can you come today?

Often, yes. Call (512) 910-5935 or book at acmeautoworks.com/book — Monday through Friday, 8am to 6pm, at your home or office.
