What we fix

Common Dodge problems we handle in Austin

Pentastar 3.6L oil filter housing leaks

The 3.6L Pentastar in the Ram 1500, Durango, Grand Caravan, Journey, and Charger is a good engine with one famous habit: the plastic oil filter housing and cooler assembly develops leaks, and you smell hot oil or find drips before you ever see a warning light. Replacing the housing — most people upgrade to the improved aluminum version — is upper-engine work we do in your driveway. If your Pentastar smells like oil after a drive, this is the first place we look.

Pentastar water pumps and cooling at 100k

Around 100k miles, Pentastar water pumps start to weep and thermostats get lazy — and a marginal cooling system fails on the first 105-degree week, not on a mild day. We pressure test, replace pumps, thermostats, hoses, and radiators on-site, and get the coolant spec right.

Hemi ignition: sixteen spark plugs

The 5.7L Hemi runs two plugs per cylinder — sixteen plugs on a V8 — and skipping the interval shows up as a rough idle or a miss under load in a Ram or Charger. A proper plug service on a Hemi is twice the parts of a normal V8, and it's driveway work we do regularly, coils included when testing shows one's weak.

The clicking dash: blend door actuators

Rams, Durangos, and Grand Caravans are known for blend door actuators that strip their plastic gears — a clicking behind the dash and air stuck on hot or cold, usually discovered the first week of summer. Multi-zone systems have several actuators; we find the failed one and replace it on-site.

Ram front ends: from wander to wobble

Ram 1500 ball joints and tie rods wear like any working truck's, and the solid-axle 2500/3500 adds the famous pattern: a worn track bar or steering damper lets the front end shimmy — at its worst, the 'death wobble' after a bump at highway speed. The fix is replacing the specific worn parts, not the whole catalog. We inspect the front end properly, tell you which components are actually loose, and replace them at your house.

Questions

Common questions about mobile Dodge repair

How much does mobile Dodge or Ram repair cost in Austin?

We quote every job upfront as a flat rate — you approve the total price before any work begins, not an hourly meter. The number comes before the wrenches.

My Pentastar smells like burning oil — what is it?

First suspect is the oil filter housing — a known leak point on the 3.6L. We confirm it's the housing and not a valve cover, then replace it in your driveway, typically with the improved design.

Can every Dodge repair be done mobile?

Most of what actually fails — oil housing leaks, cooling, AC, brakes, charging, front ends, ignition — is accessible work we do on-site. For major internal work — head gaskets, timing jobs, exhaust, and internal engine or transmission repair — we'll refer you to a shop equipped for it.

Do you work on Ram 2500s and 3500s?

Yes — we carry equipment rated for 3/4-ton and 1-ton trucks. Front-end work on solid-axle Rams, including track bars and steering dampers, is regular work for us.

What Dodge and Ram models do you service?

Ram 1500 through 3500, ProMaster vans, Durango, Charger, Challenger, Grand Caravan, and Journey.

Can you come today?

Often, yes. Call (512) 910-5935 or book at acmeautoworks.com/book — Monday through Friday, 8am to 6pm, home, office, or jobsite.
